Hot Start Propels Fisher Past Tigers In Men's Basketball

The St. John Fisher College men's basketball program made a season-high 10 3-pointers, including five in the game's first five minutes, as the Cardinals held on for an 85-77 win over Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday at Nazareth College in the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout.

With the win, Fisher, currently receiving votes in the D3hoops.com national poll, improves to 4-2 overall.

Tyler English's 3-pointer in the closing seconds of the half capped a 7-0 spurt over the final 1:08 of the first half and gave the Cardinals a 43-28 lead at the break.

Fisher shot 7-for-12 (58.3%) from 3-point range in the first half.

The Cardinals took a 15-12 lead in the first five minutes, knocking down 5-of-6 from beyond the arc.  Senior Michael D'Amico  led the way early on, draining 3-of-3 from 3, while Alex Sausville and Tyler Farrell also hit triples.

Keegan Ryan scored all 11 of his first-half points in the final 6:13 of the period.

Fisher would take its biggest lead of the night at 61-43 after back-to-back buckets from Jake Haight with 13:41 remaining, but RIT would hang tough.

The Tigers would trim Fisher's lead down to six at 70-64 with just under six minutes to go, but the Cardinals responded with seven unanswered and kept a double-digit lead for nearly the remainder of the game.

English led Fisher with 16 points and five assists.

Ryan recorded his 34th double-double of his career, tallying 15 points and 10 rebounds, while D'Amico finished with a  season-high 14 points.  Haight totaled 11 points, while freshman Dennis Hare totaled seven points and seven rebounds.  Alex Sausville finished with eight points and four assists, while Dan Vaulman, Ryan Henderson and Jordan Gilman combined for 11 points.

Fisher will return to action at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 17th and will host SUNY Cortland.
