The St. John Fisher College men's basketball program dropped a 79-69 decision to visiting SUNY Cortland on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference matchup at Fisher's Bobby Wanzer Court.
With the loss, Fisher falls to 4-3 overall, while the Red Dragons improve to 7-2.
The Cardinals were control for the first part of the first half and took their largest lead of the game at 27-20 with 10 minutes left on a pair of free throw from freshman
Sammy Robinson.
Cortland, however, went on a 12-1 run over a three-minute span late in the half to take the lead for good and held a 42-37 advantage at the break.
Fisher would trail by as many as 13 points at 61-48 with 10:18 remaining, but made a valiant run, sparked by three 3-pointers from senior
Dan Vaulman. A dunk from
Jake Haight with 7:44 left made it a four-point game, and
Keegan Ryan's layup with 6:44 left, pulled the Cardinals to within two at 67-65. Â Â
Ryan led the Cardinals with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Robinson scored a career-high 11 points.
Tyler English recorded his first career double-double, totaling a career-high 10 rebounds, while scoring 10 points and dishing out five assists.
Vaulman finished with nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc is just eight minutes of action, while Haight tallied seven points and four rebounds.
Fisher will return to action on December 29
th and 30
th. The Cardinals will host Colby-Sawyer, Immaculata and Penn State-Behrend in the two-day tournament.
