Men's Soccer NCAA Bound with E8 Final Win

The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team punched its ticket to Division III NCAA Championship as it took down Houghton College 3-2 in the Empire 8 Championship Final played at the Stevens Institute of Technology Saturday evening. This is the first time the Fisher men's soccer program history that it has captured the E8 Championship title as well as the first time the team will make an appearance in the national tournament.

A pair of late goals scored approximately three minutes apart secured the come from behind victory for the Cardinals. Down 2-1 to the Highlanders, Tyler Randall sent a pass into the box that the opposing keeper was able to get his hands on. He was unable to secure the ball though and Jeff Meyers was able to scoop up the rebound and tie the game at two apiece with 12:49 left in regulation.

Just 3:09 later Matthew Kaiser corralled a pass sent into the box and finished it to put the Cardinals ahead by one. Houghton took three corners in the final seconds but Fisher's defense stood strong securing the eventual 3-2 victory.

Fisher recorded its first goal in the first half as M. Kaiser tucked away a free kick from just outside the box, percolating the start of the comeback.

Joe Catalfamo played all 90 minutes between pipes for the Cardinals, recording five saves on the day.

Fisher, which now holds a record of 6-9-3, will now wait to see where it will be seeded in the national tournament as the election show is set for Monday.
