Field Hockey To Host E8 Tournament After Win On Senior Day

The St. John Fisher College Field Hockey team took down Houghton College 5-1, clinching first place in the Empire 8 with their record-breaking 13th win in a row on Saturday afternoon in a game dedicated to the seniors of the field hockey program.

Fisher will host the Empire 8 tournament November 4th and 5th, and with the win it improves its record to 14-2 overall, yet another record for most wins in a season.

St. John Fisher would like to congratulate seniors Sarah Bisesi, Nickole Morgan, Gabby LaForce, Amanda Maciol, and Alexandrea Malley for their hard work and dedication to the field hockey program throughout their careers.

Fisher's offense gained momentum quickly, as Lexi Foley found the back of the cage on an assist from Morgan in just the ninth minute. Just four minutes later, freshman Kelly Bergamo scored on a pass from Morgan.

The Highlanders would score just once in the 26th minute, but Fisher would not score for the remainder of the half.

To start the second half Emily Markarian made the score 3-1 on an unassisted goal, and Michaela Altobelli would tack another point on with an unassisted goal just three minutes after Markarian's.

The Cardinal's fifth and final goal was scored by Keely Samsonik assisted by Markarian in the 66th minute of play.

Fisher's excellent defense kept Houghton's shot count to just five, as goalkeeper Ashley Maynard recorded two saves.

The Cardinals return to action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday when they travel to take on Oswego State in a non-conference matchup.
