The St. John Fisher College field hockey continued its historic streak Tuesday evening, shutting out Union College 4-0 on the road. With the win, the team's win streak improves to 10-straight and its record also moves up to 11-2. Union moves to 4-8.
The Cardinals got right into the action as
Keeley Samsonik scored just 4:03 into the game. The sophomore ripped a shot from the left side that beat the keeper and gave Fisher the 1-0 lead.
Lauren Fazio doubled it up in the 21
st minute as she was able to jam home a rebound.
Emily Markarian recorded the last two for the Cardinals, her first coming with just under five minutes left in the first half. The forward received a nice pass from
Reghan Amoroso that she was able to tap in. Her second of the night came at the 58:26 mark as she ripped a shot from the left side to beat the Dutchwomen goalkeeper.
Defense was key for the Cardinals as
Sarah Bisesi,
Hannah Cooper and
Alexandrea Malley held down the backline, only allowing Union eight shots on goal.
Ashley Maynard anchored the defense as well, stopping all eight shots while earning her seventh shutout of the season. She would be relieved by
Amanda Maciol with 11 minutes to go in regulation and the junior finished out the game without seeing a shot on net.
Fisher returns to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday as the team heads down to Washington and Jefferson College for a critical conference matchup.
