Bergamo's OT Goal Keeps Field Hockey Streak Alive

A Kelly Bergamo goal in double overtime helped the St. John Fisher College field hockey team down Washington and Jefferson College 1-0 Saturday afternoon. With the victory, Fisher remains unbeaten in conference play (6-0), while the team's overall record improves to 12-2. Washington and Jefferson moves to 11-2 on the year (4-2 Empire 8).

The win also keeps Fisher's win streak alive, as the Cardinals have now defeated 11-straight opponents.   The victory also clinches a spot in the Empire 8 Conference Championship.

After 91 minutes of scoreless play, Bergamo was able to notch the golden goal to seal the win for the Cardinals. Emily Markarian started the play with a long pass from the right side. Bergamo received the pass and was able to chip the ball over the Presidents' goalkeeper, earning the single goal needed to seal the win.

Defensively, the Cardinals' Sarah Bisesi and Alexandrea Malley held down the back line, recording two and one defensive saves, respectively.

Ashley Maynard earned her sixth clean sheet of the season, turning aside 10 of the Presidents' chances, half of which were in the extra periods .

Fisher will return to the field at 7 p.m. on Tuesday as the team hosts Keuka College for a non-conference matchup.
