Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Takes Down Alfred 4-1

The St. John Fisher College women's soccer program scored a season-high four goals and earned its first Empire 8 Conference win of the season, as the Cardinals cruised to a 4-1 win over visiting Alfred University on Saturday afternoon at Fisher's Growney Stadium.

The victory marks the 100th career win for head coach Jill McCabe, Fisher's head coach since 2000.

The Cardinals (4-4-1 overall, 1-1 Empire 8) took the lead for good in the 17th minute as freshman Tara Marcello scored her first career goal off a pass from Carly Finn.

Nearly six minute later, Fisher pushed its lead to 2-0 with Marcello assisting on a goal from Nicolette Nigro.

In the 30th minute, junior Taryn Guinta deflected a pass from Erin Mosher from 12 yards out off the right post and into the back of the net, giving the Cardinals a 3-0 lead going into the locker room.

After an Alfred goal, Fisher pushed its lead back to three goals, as Brianna Sammon scored on a breakaway with fellow freshman Nicolle Pierce.

Fisher returns to action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and will host SUNY Fredonia.
