The St. John Fisher College field hockey team defeated SUNY Geneseo 2-1 in overtime on Saturday.
This victory marks Fisher's first win in program history against the Knights. With the win, Fisher improves to 6-2 overall, while the Knights fall to 3-5.
Geneseo struck first in the 30
th minute, but Fisher quickly rebounded just two minutes later with a goal by
Elizabeth Cusack off a rebounded shot, tying the game at 1-1 heading into the second half.
Goalkeeper
Danielle Famolaro made three crucial saves in the final five minutes of regulation, two of which came in the closing seconds to extend the game into overtime.
The game-winning goal came from
Emily Markarian as she was able to capitalize on a breakaway and dribble around the goalie to find the back of the cage just six minutes into overtime.
Markarian has now recorded eight goals this season.
Famolaro saw 19 shots and made nine saves for the Cardinals.
Fisher is back in action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday when the Cardinals host the University of Rochester at Growney Stadium.
