The St. John Fisher College field hockey team fell 6-1 to the University of Rochester in non-conference action on Wednesday at Growney Stadium as Fisher couldn't overcome a strong first half from the visitors.
With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 6-3 on the season while the Yellowjackets, who received votes in this week's national rankings, improved to 8-2 on the season.
Rochester struck early and often as the Yellowjackets used goals in the seventh, ninth, and 17
th minutes to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Rochester would go on to tally the game's next two goals as the Yellowjackets took a 5-0 advantage in the 59
th minute.
The Cardinals wouldn't go down without a fight however as
Nickole Morgan scored the lone Fisher goal of the contest in the 67
th minute.
Keeley Samsonik was credited with the assist on the play.
Rochester recorded one more goal before the just game ended to take the five-goal victory.
Danielle Famolaro started in net for the Cardinals and recorded 11 saves. The senior now has 72 saves on the season and has a 6-3 record.
Fisher will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday as they host Utica College in an Empire 8 contest at Growney Stadium.
