The St. John Fisher College field hockey team won its third straight game and earned a victory in its Empire 8 conference season opener, as the Cardinals came away with a 3-1 win at Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday.
Â
With the win, Fisher improves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the Empire 8, while the Ducks fall to 1-2, 0-1.
Â
Trailing 1-0 at the half, Fisher got things going in the second period. The Cardinals tied it up in the 41st minute with a goal by
Lauren Fazio off a pass from
Emily Markarian.
Â
Just over three minutes later, Markarian would score the eventual game-winning goal, making this her third straight game scoring at least one goal for the Cardinals.
Â
Elizabeth Cusack added an insurance goal in the 60th minute, unassisted, bringing the score to 3-1.
Â
Stevens outshot the cardinals 19-9, but Famolaro was ready and able to make a season-high 12 saves.
Â
Fisher returns to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday as it takes on SUNY Cortland.
