Women's Lax Falls to TCNJ In NCAA Second Round

The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team fell 10-7 to No. 7 ranked The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship.

With the loss, the 19th ranked Cardinals finish the season with a 14-6 record overall, while the Lions improve to 17-3.

The Cardinals struck first on an unassisted tally from Sierra Badger less than two minutes into the game.

Nicole Hart made three early saves but TCNJ notched its first tally at the 21:27 mark.  Just :24 seconds later the Lions found the back of the net to seize a 2-1 lead.

After TCNJ scored a goal near the midway point of the half, neither team found the back of the net for almost 10 minutes.  Fisher scored three goals in a 1:57 span to take its first lead of the game at 4-3.  Samantha Barton scored the first and third goals of the run, while Kennedy Frink scored a free position goal.

The Lions reclaimed the lead with two goals in the final :10 seconds of the half to take a 5-4 lead at the break.

TCNJ kept its momentum going to start the next frame, scoring back-to-back goals in a :48 second span to open up a 7-4 advantage.

Fisher found the back of the net for the first time in the second half on a pretty pass from Frink to Jordan Johnson at the 18:18 mark to cut the deficit to 7-5.

It didn't take long for the Lions to respond, notching a tally over a minute later to reclaim a three goal advantage at 8-5.

Badger scored her second of the day at the halfway point to make it 8-6, however the Lions answered once again.

Fisher kept fighting to pull within two for a final time at 9-7 with eight minutes remaining, but that is as close as it would come.

Hart finished the day with seven saves.

Frink led the Cardinals with three points on one goal and two assists, while Barton, Badger, and Johnson each recorded two goals.

Fisher's senior class of Barton, Brittany Didio, Danielle Falck, Kristina Lombard, Lindsey Shoales, and Erin Ward conclude their careers as the winningest class in program history, finishing with 59 wins over four years.
