The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team suffered a 16-6 loss to East-Avenue rival Nazareth College today at Fisher's Growney Stadium in the regular-season finale for both teams.
With the loss, Fisher falls to 11-5 overall and 5-3 in the Empire 8 Conference, while the Golden Flyers, currently ranked 15
th nationally, improve to 13-4, 8-0. The two teams will meet again at 4 p.m. on Wednesday in the semifinals of the Empire 8 Conference Championship with Fisher as the No. 4 team and Nazareth as the No. 1 seed and host institution.
Nazareth took a 1-0 lead in the opening minute of the game, but Fisher came right with
Gary Bova scoring to the game at 1-1 with just over 10 minutes left in the opening period.
The Golden Flyers, however, took control scoring eight unanswered goals over the next 15 minutes before
Tim Wagner snapped the streak with a man-up goal off a pass from freshman
Andrew Rosso.
Fisher, who trailed 13-3 after three quarters, tallied three goals in the final period. Bova scored his second goal of the game midway through the fourth, while
Christopher Buschi made it 13-5 with his sixth goal of the season. Rosso closed out the scoring for Fisher, tallying his 14
th goal of the season.
Freshman
Matt Colicchia also scored in the second half.
Ricky Hahn led the Fisher defense with four caused turnovers, while
Ricky Barton created three turnovers.
