After posting an 11-10 win over Nazareth College in the Empire 8 Conference Championship Semifinals last year, the St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse program had the favor returned on Wednesday, as the No. 4 Cardinals suffered a 13-4 loss at No. 1 Nazareth in the E8 Semifinals.
It is the 10
th straight year Fisher has finished with a winning record and the ninth consecutive season the Cardinals have posted double digits in the win-column.Â
Fisher got off to a great start with back-to-back goals from
Matthew Condon gave the Cardinals a 2-1 lead midway through the first quarter.
Nazareth scored the next three goals to take a 4-2 lead before Fisher answered back.Â
Nick Rossi scored off a pass from
Tim Wagner to make it 4-3 with 2:50 left in the opening period.
Fisher, however, would struggle on the offensive end after that. Nazareth led 6-3 at the half and tallied three goals in the first four minutes of the third to extend its lead to 9-3.
Rossi snapped the scoreless drought with 10:13 left in the fourth quarter, scoring his final collegiate goal of a pass from
Andrew Rosso, but the Cardinals failed to find the back of the net after that.
Sophomore goalie
Tanner Swan was solid in net, registering 12 saves and team-high six ground balls.
Ricky Barton tallied a team-high four caused turnovers, while
Zakary Bussey totaled five ground balls and caused three turnovers.
Condon, also tabbed on the All-Conference First Team, and teammate
Ricky Hahn earned All-Tournament nods.
