The St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team moved into a tie for first place in the Empire 8 Conference standings on Sunday, as the Cardinals cruised to a 19-4 win over visiting Hartwick College on Sunday.
With the win, Fisher improves to 8-4 overall and 4-1 in the Empire 8, tied with Stevens Institute of Technology and Nazareth for atop the conference standings.
Fisher jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first seven minutes and pushed its lead to 6-1 with just over eight minutes left in the first half. The Cardinals led 6-3 at the break and outscored Hartwick 13-1 over the final 30 minutes, scoring the game's final 10 goals.
Starting goalie
Molly Maguire stopped four shots over the final 34 minutes to earn in the win in net.Â
Jenn Crater and
Nicole Hart combined for three saves.
Chrissy Cook led Fisher with five points on three goals and two assists.
Freshman
Cori Holbrook and senior
Samantha Barton also tallied three goals apiece, while fellow senior
Erin Ward totaled four points on two goals and two assists.
Seniors
Danielle Falck and
Lindsey Shoales each scored twice, while Shoales and Barton led Fisher with three draw controls.
Mackenzie LeVan finished with two assists, while
Jordan Johnson,
Sierra Badger,
Felicia Suto and
Kaitlyn Agedal also scored in the win.
Abbie Reed led the Fisher defense with four caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Fisher returns to action at 4 p.m. on Thursday at SUNY Brockport.
