The St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse program traveled to Hoboken, N.J. and came away with an 11-7 win over nationally-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday.
With the win, Fisher improves to 7-4 overall and 3-1 in the Empire 8 Conference, while the Ducks, ranked 23
rd in the latest national coaches poll, fall to 8-3, 4-1.
Fisher enjoyed a 6-4 lead early in the second half, but the Ducks scored the next two goals, tying the game at 6-6 with 18:32 left. The Cardinals, however, regained the lead just 27 seconds later, as
Sierra Badger scored on a free-position shot, starting a 4-0 run for Fisher over the next 10 minutes to pull away.
Stevens led 1-0 early in the game, but scored the next four goals to take the lead and led 5-3 at the half.
Samantha Barton and Badger each finished with three goals, while
Erin Ward tallied three points on one goal and two assists.
Senior
Lindsey Shoales scored two goals and led Fisher on the day with six draw controls.
Lexi Peebles and
Danielle Falck also scored for Fisher, while
Jordan Johnson registered one assist and a team-high six ground balls.
Freshman goalie
Molly Maguire had her first start in goal and made seven saves over the 60 minutes.
Fisher returns to action at 12 p.m. on Sunday and will host Hartwick College.
