Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lax Hands Oswego Its First Loss

The. St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team improved to 4-2 on the year, as the Cardinals knocked off previously-unbeaten SUNY Oswego 9-4 on Saturday at Fisher's Growney Stadium. The Cardinals used a 5-0 run over a 26-minute span to seal the win and give the Lakers (3-1) their first loss of the season.

Oswego took a 1-0 lead, but Fisher tied it up midway through the first quarter on a goal from Dante Giordano.

Fisher took a 2-1 lead on a goal from Tim Wagner early in the second, but the Lakers answered back, tying the game at 2s.

Fisher, however, would take control in the final six minutes of the half.

Giordano put Fisher up for good with 5:32 left in the first half, and 70 seconds later, Chrisopher Buschi would score off a pass from Joe Gaug to make it 4-2. Gary Bova would add an unassisted goal with 1:16 left to put Fisher up 5-2 at the half.

The Fisher defense did its part to preserve the lead. The Cardinals killed a two-man advantage in the final minute of the first half and held the Lakers without a goal for the entire third quarter.

Fisher pushed its lead to 6-2 in the opening minute of the third quarter, as freshman Andrew Rosso scooped up a ground ball in the crease and scored his third goal of the year.

Midway through the third, Nick Costello scored to put the Cardinals up 7-2.

The Lakers scored two goals in a 49-second span early in the fourth to make it 7-4, but the Cardinals answered right back.

Junior Matthew Condon gathered a loose ball and scored from point-blank range to make it 8-4 with 8:48 left. Senior Nick Rossi added a man-up goal off a pass from Gaug with seven minutes to close out the scoring.

Tanner Swan earned the win in net, making eight saves over 60 minutes.

Paul Cefalu was 10-for-17 in faceoffs and led his team with six ground balls. Zakary Bussey added four ground balls for the Cardinals.

Fisher will return to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Ithaca College in the Empire 8 Conference season opener for both teams. It will be a rematch of last year's Empire 8 Championship game.
