Field Hockey Dropped By St. Lawrence

The St. John Fisher College field hockey team closed out its regular season with a 2-1 loss to opponent St. Lawrence University in its senior game on Saturday at Growney Stadium.

With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 12-6 on the season, while the Saints improve to 5-11.

St. Lawrence struck first just six minutes into the contest on a cross that slid just past senior goalkeeper Danielle Famolaro.

The Saints would score again in the opening minutes of the second half to bring the Cardinal deficit to two goals.

Fisher countered with a goal in the 45th minute from Emily Markarian on a cross feed from Elizabeth Cusack, but the Saints lead would hold for the remainder of the game.

The Cardinals will return to action at 6 p.m. next Friday in the semifinals of the Empire 8 Conference Championship.  The Cardinals are the No. 2 seed in the four-team tournament, hosted by No. 1 Ithaca College.
