Field Hockey Falls In Empire 8 Semifinals

The St. John Fisher College field hockey team fell to the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks 2-1 in the semifinal round of the Empire 8 Conference Championship Tournament on Friday, hosted by first-seed Ithaca College.

With the loss, Fisher closes out its 2015 season 12-4, participating in its fourth postseason appearance in five years.

Both teams were aggressive in the first half, but Fisher's Emily Markarian found the back of the net 25 minutes into the first half to bring the Cardinal's lead to 1-0 over the Ducks.

Fisher's 1-0 lead would hold for the remainder of the half.

Stevens answered with a goal in the 42nd minute to tie the game at 1-1 with just under 30 minutes left in the game.

The Ducks dominated in penalty corners, drawing 20 to Fisher's three in regulation.

Stevens had several scoring opportunities on penalty corners in the second half but could not capitalize, sending the game into its first overtime period tied at 1-1

The Ducks netted the game-winning goal just four minutes into the overtime period, ending the game after 75 minutes of play.

Field hockey celebrates its most successful season in program history with a program-high 12 wins as it ends its season in the semifinal round of the Empire 8 Conference Tournament.
