The St. John Fisher College field hockey team fell to East Avenue rival Nazareth College 2-0 on Wednesday at Growney Stadium in Empire 8 Conference action.
The loss snaps a Fisher four-game win-streak as the Cardinals are now 10-4 overall and 6-1 in Empire 8 action while Nazareth improves to 7-9 overall and 3-4 in the Empire 8 following the victory.
The Golden Flyers drew first blood in the sixth minute, putting the Cardinals behind 1-0. Fisher didn't record its first shot until the 16
th minute but then had a barrage of seven shots over the course of the next five minutes of the contest. The Cardinals could not break through however, as they went into intermission trailing 1-0.
In the second half, Nazareth extended its lead to 2-0 when it converted on a penalty shot in the 59
th minute. In an attempt at a comeback, Fisher's
Nickole Morgan and
Emily Markarian combined for four shots over the course of the last eight minutes of the game but were unable to tally a score.
Danielle Famolaro started in net for the Cardinals and made four saves in the contest as her season record fell to 10-4.
The Cardinals return to action at 11 a.m. on Saturday as they host Empire 8 opponent Washington & Jefferson College. If Fisher defeats the Presidents, they will clinch the right to host the Empire 8 Conference Championships as the number one seed.
