The St. John Fisher College volleyball team picked up a pair of victories on Saturday at the Golden Eagle Invitational held at the College at Brockport. The Cardinals defeated Alfred University 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-16) in the early contest before going on to take down Hilbert College 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-18) in the afternoon game.
With the two wins, Fisher improves to 13-13 overall on the season. The Cardinals return to the fold next Saturday as they head to Ithaca College for an Empire 8 Crossover event for contests against Hartwick College and Ithaca.
Fisher 3, Alfred 0In the first set, Fisher fell behind 4-1 early on before going on to score six out of the set's next seven points to take a 7-5 lead. The Cardinals did not trail again in the set as an
Anna Marcy kill gave Fisher the 25-19 victory and the 1-0 lead.
Fisher and Alfred battled to a close second set finish as the Cardinals narrowly came away with the 25-22 win to go up 2-0 in the contest. A team total of six service aces fueled Fisher to the three-point set win.
The third set was the best of the contest for the Cardinals as they picked up 17 kills as a team and only committed four errors. The nine-point set victory by Fisher was its largest of the match.
Marcy led the Cardinals with 14 kills in addition to two aces while
Meghan Stonebarger also turned in a strong performance with 34 assists.
Jessica Simonetti posted a game-high five aces to go along with 16 digs.
Fisher 3, Hilbert 0Fisher went on five-point runs on two different occasions in the first set in order to capture a 25-12 win. Senior
Megan Miller picked up five out of the team's 10 total kills in the set to help secure the 13-point victory.
Up only 7-6 in the second set, the Cardinals went on an 11-1 run capped off by a
Madison Karwas kill, ultimately resulting in an 18-7 lead. The set was capped off with a
Megan Miller kill to give Fisher the 25-13 victory and a 2-0 lead in the game.
The Cardinals used efficient play throughout the third set as they recorded 11 kills and only one error on their way to a 25-18 set win, securing the 3-0 game victory.
Megan Miller tallied a team-high 13 kills in the contest while also recording eight digs.
Stonebarger once again led the Cardinals in assists (27) while also leading the team in digs (13).
