The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College football squad (2-0, 1-0) hits the road for its longest away game of the season, traveling to Frostburg State University (2-1, 0-1) on Satuday for a 1 p.m. kickoff in what will be the final Empire 8 Conference matchup between the two schools. Frostburg will no longer be an affiliate Empire 8 member in football come the 2015 season.
Fisher is coming off a 36-20 victory over The College at Brockport in Courage Bowl X last weekend, a game in which the Cardinals combined for 404 yards on the ground. The running back duo of
Tony Fusco and
James Chambers accounted for 313 rushing yards and three touchdowns to help open up Empire 8 play with a victory. Chambers also added a 59-yard score through the air in the first quarter.
Frostburg saw its opening Empire 8 matchup go the other way as the Bobcats fell 20-12 to host Utica College last weekend. The visitors scored a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter to cut the Utica lead to 20-12, however the Pioneers stopped the Bobcats on a fourth down in scoring territory late in the game to seal the victory.
The Cardinals will look to make it a perfect 5-0 all-time against Frostburg in the final Empire 8 meeting. Last year, the Cardinals needed a late touchdown midway through the fourth quarter to solidify a 38-35 come-from-behind victory over the Bobcats at Growney Stadium.
