Volleyball Falls Twice On Final Day of NYU Invitational

The St, John Fisher College volleyball team dropped the final two matches of the New York University Labor Day Invitational on Saturday. Fisher (0-4) took a straight-set loss against Babson College (19-25, 14-25, 21-25) and a four-set loss to Rowan University (19-25, 25-20, 24-26, 15-25). The Cardinals will host their home opener at 7 p.m. Wednesday on Bobby Wanzer Court. Fisher will face D'Youville College.
 
Babson 3, Fisher 0

The Cardinals trailed the Beavers the majority of the first set after taking the lead at 3-2. Fisher dropped the second set in a similar manner, struggling to keep up with Babson's five three-point runs.
 
The third set was a different story, however. Fisher and Babson exchanged the lead three times, while tying eight times, including at 9-9. The Beavers then went on a 12-3 run against the Cardinals to make it 21-12. Fisher got within three points, but Babson eventually won by a four-point margin.
 
Freshman Anna Marcy continued to impress, leading Fisher with six kills. Junior Megan Miller and freshman Madison Karwas added five and four kills, respectively, while also leading the Cardinals in digs with five apiece. Sophomores Jessica Simonetti and Brooke Meader added five digs each. Meader also tallied totaled a team-best eight assists.

Rowan 3, Fisher 1

The Cardinals won their first set of the season in the second set against Rowan, despite losing the four-set match. Senior Paige Willson tallied four of the team's 12 kills in the set, while Fisher overall limited itself to two errors.  
 
Fisher competed closely in the first and third set, but couldn't keep up in the fourth set.
 
Karwas totaled 12 kills in the match, and Willson and Miller added 10 apiece. Junior Erica Stickler collected 35 of the team's 45 assists. Freshman Jordan DeMartino contributed 12 digs.
