Men's Lax Rallies Past Stevens On Senior Day

BOX SCORE

The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team allowed just one goal over the game's final 49 minutes, as the Cardinals rallied from a 4-1 deficit to defeat visiting Stevens Institute of Technology 7-5 on Saturday at Fisher's Growney Stadium on Senior Day.

With the win, Fisher improves to 5-4 overall, but more importantly, 2-1 in the Empire 8 Conference.   Stevens drops to 5-6, 2-1 with the loss.

The Ducks were in control early on. With the game tied at 1-1, Stevens scored three goals in a 1:34 span to take a 4-1  lead with four minutes left in the opening period.

Senior David Haseley scored with 5:14 left in the second quarter to make it 4-2 and exactly one minute later Tim Wagner made it a one-goal game off a pass from Jeff Wester.  Wagner then tied the game at 4-4 early on the second half with Gary Bova assisting on the goal.

Fisher seized control late in the third.  Senior Greg Ramsden put Fisher up for good, with his 11th goal of the season from Brett Farrell with 3:45 left.  Less than 30 seconds later Farrell scored off a pass from Haseley.   Holding for the final shot of the quarter, Farrell scored with one second left one the clock off a feed from Wester to make it 7-4.

The Ducks scored with just over 10 minutes left in the fourth, but the Fisher defense, led by seniors Jamie Campagna, Greg Bell and Mike Blood didn't allowed them to get any closer.
Campagna finished with 15 saves to earn the win in goal.   Bell led Fisher with a career-high four caused turnovers, while Blood scooped up two ground balls. Paul Cefalu was a solid 7-for-13 on faceoffs.

Fisher returns to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday and will host Houghton College.
