Fisher's Bats Silenced By Highlanders

The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College baseball, who entered Saturday averaging 8.4 runs per game, while leading the Empire 8 Conference in nearly every offensive category, could only muster three runs over 16 innings, as the Cardinals were swept by host Houghton College.   Fisher tallied four hits in the opener, as the Highlanders plated two with two outs in the seventh to beat the Cardinals, 3-2.  In the nightcap, Fisher scored just one run on seven hits in a 3-1 loss.   Fisher returns to action at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Keystone College.

Game One: Houghton 3, Fisher 2
The Cardinals scored two runs on just four hits in the seven-inning contest. Joe Simmons scored in the first on an RBI-single from Malcolm Kelsey.   In the sixth, back-to-back doubles from Nick Flemister and Brad Rush put Fisher up 2-0.   Shawn Corrigan was the hard-luck loser.   The senior was one out away from earning the complete-game win, but four straight singles led to the Fisher loss.

Game Two: Houghton 3, Fisher 1
Freshman pitcher Jacob Taylor was solid in his first career start, allowing eight hits, two runs (both in the first innings), while striking out four.   Classmate Frank Carnevale was Fisher's lone multi-hit player, doubling in Cal Woolhiser, who reached on a double.
