Women's Lax Suffers Second Straight Setback

The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse program dropped a 10-7 decision at SUNY Fredonia on Tuesday afternoon.

Fisher, who won its first five games, marking the best start in its program's history, now owns a 5-2 overall record. Fredonia is also 5-2 on the year.

The Cardinals, currently ranked No. 14 in the latest national coaches poll, fell behind five minutes into the game and trailed 5-1 midway through the first half.

Fisher trailed 8-2 with just over 20 minutes left, but scored four goals over the next seven minute to make it 9-5. Emily Bryerton made it 10-7 with just over eight minutes left, but Fisher couldn't get any closer.

Fisher finished the game with a 21-17 advantage in shots and held a 12-7 edge in draw controls. Both teams scooped up 12 ground balls, while Fisher (15) committed two more turnovers than the Blue Devils (13).

Taylor Hughes and Sierra Badger each scored two goals for the Cardinals, while Lindsey Shoales and Jill Zerrillo also scored. Erin Ward led Fisher with three ground balls. Samantha Barton chipped in with two assists and won six draws.
