The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team jumped out to a 5-0 lead and snapped a two-game losing streak with an 11-6 win over visiting SUNY Oswego on Saturday.
With the win, Fisher, who was coming off a 10-6 loss to No. 1 Rochester Institute of Technology, improves to 3-2, while the Lakers snapped their three-game winning streak and fall to 3-2 on the year as well.
Fisher's
Brett Farrell and
Gary Bova both tallied five points on three goals and two assists.Â
Greg Ramsden tallied four points on two goals and two assists, while
Jeff Wester also picked up two assists. Â
Tim Wagner,
Nick Rossi and
Kevin DeOrdio also scored in the win.
Farrell put the Cardinals up for good in the game's opening minute.  Wagner made it 2-0 just over two minutes later and Bova scored back-to-back goals to put Fisher up 4-0 less than 10 minutes into the game.  Farrell scored his ninth goal of the season on a man-up situation with 1:09 left in the period before the Lakers got on the board just before the end of quarter.
Oswego, capitalizing on four Fisher penalties, controlled most of the second quarter and scored the period's only two goal and trailed by just two at 5-3 going into the second half.
Fisher regained the momentum early in the third with Ramsden scoring 14 seconds in the half. Ramsden added another goal nine minutes later and Rossi extended Fisher's three-goal run with 4:21 left in the third.
The Lakers scored the next two goals, cutting Fisher's lead to 8-5 early in the fourth quarter, but the Cardinals pulled away, scoring three goals in a 4:03 span midway through the fourth.
Jamie Campagna got the win in goal finishing with seven saves.
Paul Cefalu was 10-for-20 on faceoffs and tallied five ground balls, as did senior
Taylor Muztafago.
Fisher will return to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday and will host Ithaca College in the Empire 8 Conference season opener for both teams.
