The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team picked up its second win in as many days dropping Buffalo State College 16-5 Saturday at Growney Stadium.
With the win the 13
th-ranked Cardinals improve to 5-0 on the season while Buffalo State falls to 2-1.
Just as it did a day ago in an 11-6 win over SUNY Oneonta, Fisher jumped out to a 3-0 lead to start out the contest.Â
Emily Bryerton scored the first and third goals of the game. Bryerton's first goal was assisted by
Jordan Johnson and the second assist was credited to
Chrissy Cook at the 16 minute mark of the first half.
After Buffalo State notched its first goal of the game with just 11 minutes remaining in the half Fisher responded with two goals in an :11 second span to open up a 5-1 advantage.Â
Erin Ward had the first goal for the Cardinals following it up with an assist to
Taylor Hughes.Â
Samantha Barton scored her second of the game for the final goal of the half as Fisher led 6-1.
In the second half
Sierra Badger helped get things rolling with a free position goal. Badger picked up an assist shortly after finding Hughes for a one-handed catch and shoot for an 8-1 lead.
Buffalo State managed to net the games next two goals but Fisher closed out the game on a 8-2 run to seal the victory.
Hughes led the way for Fisher with four goals and one assist. Barton and Badger each finished with four points apiece.
Fisher will open up Empire 8 play at 1 p.m. next weekend when it travels to Ithaca College. Fisher defeated the Bombers last season 11-8 in the Empire 8 Championship, avenging its loss earlier in the regular season.
