Football Set To Decide Empire 8 Crown Against Ithaca

The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College football team (7-1, 5-1), host Ithaca College (6-2, 5-2) Saturday at 1 p.m on Senior Day with the winner claiming the Empire 8 regular season crown and the automatic berth into the Division III NCAA Championship.

Fisher, ranked 15th nationally in both national polls, will be looking to claim the Empire 8 title outright for the first time in program history.  Fisher has shared the Empire 8 title three times, first in 2004 with the Bombers, next with Springfield College in 2006, and lastly in 2009 with Alfred University.

The Cardinals most recently dropped Buffalo State College in a pivotal Empire 8 contest 35-25 on Saturday, in a day which the offense recorded a season-high 583 total yards.  Wide receiver Mike Collichio pushed his touchdown streak to six games after scoring twice and hauling in a career-high 174 receiving yards. The sophomore was named to the d3football.com Team of the Week alongside being named the Empire 8 offensive Player of the Week.

Ithaca is coming off its second consecutive win, 24-14, over host SUNY Brockport.  The Bombers held the Golden Eagles to just 56 yards of total offense in the first half and 234 yards overall.

The Fisher and Ithaca series is locked up at an even 8-8 in 16 contests all-time.  Fisher had won seven straight contests dating back to 2006, before the Bombers took last season's contest 25-22 at home.

Saturday's meeting will feature the two top defenses in the Empire 8 with Fisher surrendering a league low 15.4 points per game and 275.6 yards of total offense, with Ithaca a close second at 17 and 294.1, respectively.
