The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team battled host Buffalo State College to a 1-1 tie on Wednesday afternoon at Buffalo State's Coyer Field. With the tie, Fisher moves to 6-10-1 overall. The Cardinals will play their final regular season game at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Houghton College. Fisher (4-3 Empire 8) is vying for the fourth and final spot in the Empire 8 Conference Championship. The Cardinals can lock up the No. 4 seed with a win or a tie against the Highlanders OR with a loss or tie from Hartwick, who hosts Stevens on Saturday as well.
After a scoreless first half,
Taryn Guinta tallied her sixth goal of the year in the 55th minute off a pass from
Jamie Alloco.
The lead would hold until the 70th minute when the Bengals answered with the equalizer.
Both teams had chances in the two overtime periods, but neither team could find the back of the net.
For Fisher, goalie
Brooke Seavitt made three saves over the game's opening 79 minutes.
Gabriella Cotugno preserved the tie, making two saves in the final 31:40.
