Women's Soccer Drops Season-Opener in Heart-Breaking Fashion

BOX SCORE

The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Friday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field as Babson College scored the game-winning goal in the closing moments of regulation to earn the 3-2 victory in the season-opener for both teams.

The Cardinals got on the board in the contest's first 90 seconds when Hannah Gilbride fired a shot past Babson's net minder to give Fisher the 1-0 advantage with Krista Pilla and Alexandra Rohloff assisting on the play.  The Cardinals were at it again in the 29th minute when freshman Taryn Guinta connected with a cutting Rohloff who found nylon to push the Fisher advantage to 2-0.

Fisher led 2-1 at the break, but Babson battled back, tying the game at 2-2 in the 53rd minute.

With the game all even and time winding down, the Beavers collected a loose ball inside Fisher's 10-yard line and scored the winning goal in the game's 89th minute.

Noel Peck accounted for six saves in net for the Cardinals.

Fisher will return to action at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Keene State.
