The St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team closed out the 2013 regular season with a 20-2 win at Alfred University today.
With the win, Fisher, currently ranked 20
th nationally, improves to 13-3 overall. It is the most wins in the regular season in the program's 14-year history.
Fisher scored the game's first 12 goals, taking a 12-0 lead 20 minutes into the game and led 14-2 at the half.
Senior All-American
Melissa Leonhard scored two goals in the game, bringing her career total to 185 and tying her with Fisher's all-time leader, Lauren Glavin.
Junior
Taylor Hughes tallied five points on four goals and one assist.
Samantha Barton scored three goals, while
Sierra Badger,
Kristina Lombard and
Erin Ward each finished with two goals and one assist.
Jill Zerrillo chipped in with two goals, while
Karissa Hart,
Chrissy Cook and
Tori Suto also scored in the win.
Kristen Zylka and
Blythe Sheridan each assisted on goals.
Nicole Hart stopped two shots in goal in the first half to earn the win.
Caroline Trpcevski and
Molly Naylon split time in goal in the second half.
The Cardinals will return to action next Saturday in the semifinals of the Empire 8 Conference Championship. Fisher is the No. 2 seed in the four-team tournament and will play No. 3 Nazareth College at 3 p.m. The championship will be hosted by top-seeded Ithaca College, with the championship game taking place next Sunday. The winner of Sunday's title game will automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III Championship.
