The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse program ended the 2013 season in heart-breaking fashion, as the Cardinals lost 10-9 in double-overtime at Utica College on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, Fisher finishes the season at 10-6 overall and 3-4 in the Empire 8 Conference. The Cardinals finish fifth in the conference standing and will not qualify for the four-team, Empire 8 Championship.
Fisher trailed 2-0 midway through the first quarter, but rallied to score four straight to take a 4-2 lead early in the second quarter.
From that point on it was a back-and-forth contest with the game being tied at 4s,5s,6s,7s,8s and 9s. The Pioneers tied the game at 4-4 and scored in the closing seconds of the half to make 5-5 at the break.
Utica took a 6-5 lead early in the third quarter, but the Cardinals answered with a goal from
Brett Farrell. Fisher took the lead three times (7-6, 8-7 and 9-8) three different times in the last 19 minutes of regulation, but each time Utica was able to tally the equalizer.
After a scoreless first overtime, Utica won the ensuing faceoff on a procedure call and kept possession, netting the game-winning goal, 104 seconds into the second extra period.
Nick Rossi tallied four points on three goals and one assist.

Michael Boisvert (two goals),
Bryan Dyer (two assists) and Farrell (one goal, one assist) each finished with two points. Seniors
Brian Cole and
Ryan Freije also scored. Freije was 16-of-24 on faceoffs and led the Cardinals with 12 ground balls.
Goalie
Jamie Campagna stopped 15 shots, but was tagged with the loss.
