The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team scored six goals in the opening 10 minutes and never looked back, as the Cardinals picked up a 16-1 win at Houghton College on Friday evening. With the win, Fisher improves to 13-3 overall and will close out the regular season at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Alfred University.
The Cardinals, ranked 20th in latest national coaches poll, had 13 different players score a goal.
Senior All-American
Melissa Leonhard scored three goals, bringing her career total to 183 - two shy of the Fisher career mark. She also led Fisher with five draw controls and one assist.
Samantha Barton was the only other player to score more than one goal. She finished with two and added an assist.
Taylor Hughes tallied five points on one goal and four assists.
Erin Ward and
Jill Zerrillo both chalked up two points (one goal and one assist), while
Kristina Lombard,
Karissa Hart,
Chrissy Cook,
Sierra Badger,
Bridget Alberts,
Lindsey Shoales,
Blythe Sheridan and
Logan Barnard also scored in the win.
Senior
Kristen Zylka chipped in with two assists, while Shoales and
Sierra Albert both scooped up a team-high three ground balls.
Freshman goalie
Nicole Hart stopped two shots in the first half to earn the win in net.
Caroline Trpcevski and
Molly Naylon both shared time in goal in the secon half.
