Farrell and Wester Lift Fisher Past Lakers

BOX SCORE

St.  John Fisher College's Brett Farrell and Jeff Wester combined for five goals and five assists as the men's lacrosse team picked up a 9-6 win over visiting SUNY Oswego on Wednesday afternoon.  With the win, Fisher improves to 9-4 overall, while Lakers, who have lost four games by just one goal this year, drop to 6-6.

Fisher never trailed in the contest.  With the game tied at 1-1 midway through the first half, the Cardinals scored three straight to take the lead for good.  The Lakers chipped away at the lead, and made it 4-3 before Michael Boisvert scored his second goal of the game with 5:23 left in the second quarter to make it 5-3.    The Lakers scored again, but Fisher took a 6-4 lead at the half after Kevin DeOrdio scored his fourth goal of the year with 2:41 left in the second.

Oswego gained the momentum in the second half, but Fisher always answered.  The Lakers made it 6-5, but Farrell forced a turnover and set up Scott Campbell for his second goal of the year in the closing seconds of the third quarter to put Fisher back up two goals.  Oswego made it a one-goal game 22 seconds into the fourth quarter, but could get any closer.

Wester scored an unassisted goal with 9:08 left in the game and six minutes later Farrell scored his fourth goal of the day with Wester record his fourth assist of the contest.

Goalie Jamie Campagna finished the game with 10 saves, including four in both the third and fourth quarters.

Fisher returns to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday and will host Alfred University in a pivotal Empire 8 Conference contest.
