Women's Soccer Ties Brockport in Overtime Battle

The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team tied the College at Brockport 2-2 in a battle of 2-0 teams.  After a game that could not be decided in 110 minutes, both the Cardinals and Golden Eagles will remain undefeated with 2-0-1 records for the season.

With the Golden Eagles up 2-1, Fisher's Val Hanson sent the game into overtime with her second goal of the year in the 84th minute.  Hanson chased down a ball from Alexandra Rohloff and fired hard and low into the left side of the net to even the game at twos.

Both teams had chances in the overtime period, but neither could find the go-head strike.  Brockport had the best chance with less than 30 seconds to go when they were granted a corner but Fisher goalkeeper Sydney DeVitto came up with a huge, sprawling save to hang onto the tie.

Rohloff put the Cardinals on top in the fifth minute when she fired in a touch pass from Krista Pilla.  Pilla, off a cross from Vicki Alfieri, collected the ball in the box and passed the ball over to an open Rohloff for the striker's fourth goal of the season.

Brockport had opportunities to even the score in the first half, but Fisher headed into the locker room with the one-goal lead after key stops from its keeper DeVitto.

However, the Golden Eagles eventually got passed DeVitto, scoring in the 52nd minute to knot things up.  Vanessa Gillette took advantage of a loose ball in front of Fisher's net, and fired in her third goal of the season.

After the strike, Brockport controlled the tempo for the next 20 minutes, putting pressure on the Fisher defense.  Kaila Maguire had back-to-back opportunities, first on a breakaway that was cut-off by DeVitto.  Minutes later, the midfielder used her footwork to find a shooting lane but the shot was blocked away by a Cardinal defender.

Annie Terilli put the Golden Eagles ahead in 76th minute when she lofted a ball towards the far-left corner of the goal that dropped over the head of DeVitto and into the net.

Chelsea Oberkrieser led the Cardinals with five shots, three which were on goal.  DeVitto finished the game with a career-high six saves.

The Cardinals will return to action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night when they welcome East Avenue rival Nazareth College to Growney Stadium.
