Sophomore pitcher
Justin D'Amato set the Fisher single-season record for wins and strikeouts today, as the St. John Fisher College baseball team
picked up a 14-4 win over visiting Stevens Institute of Technology on Sunday at Dugan Yard.
With the win, Fisher, currently ranked No. 2 in the NCAA Division III New York Region and No. 26 in the national coaches poll, improves to 29-10 overall and 12-6 in the Empire 8, while Stevens falls to 23-16, 7-9.
D'Amato pitched seven innings and allowed seven hits, four runs (all unearned) and struck out nine, raising his record to 10-0 on the year. He currently has 89 strikeouts on the year, breaking the previous mark of 86, set by Dan Jurik, who was drafted in the 25
th round by the Atlanta Braves, in 2010.
Fisher gave D'Amato plenty of support, as the Cardinals pounded out 20 hits on the day.
With the game tied at 2s after two innings, Fisher took the lead for good with two runs in the third and four in the fourth frame. The Ducks made it 8-4 in the top of the fifth, but Fisher scored another four runs in the sixth and added two more in the seventh to pull away.
Sean Osterman enjoyed another sensational Sunday. The junior was 5-for-5 on the day with four RBI, four stolen bases and three stolen bases. Last Sunday, he hit a walk-off grand slam and drove in 10 runs.
Sophomore
Chris Roeder was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored.
Ben Ward and
Peter Krysztof each added three hits on the day. Ward knocked in three runs, while Krysztof crossed home plate three times.
Ben Bostick was 2-for-5 on the day with three RBI and two runs scored.
Brad Rush tripled and finished with two RBI.
Fisher will close out the regular season at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Penn State-Behrend College.
