Fisher Loses Two on Saturday to No. 23 Ithaca

The St. John Fisher College baseball team was swept by the No. 23 Ithaca College Bombers in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon in Ithaca. With the losses, the Cardinals fall to 15-7 overall and 2-3 in the Empire 8 Conference.

Game One – Ithaca 8, Fisher 3 (Seven Innings):

Tim Johnson got the start for the Cardinals but only went 3.1 innings, allowing nine hits, five earned runs and two walks. Tim Sylvester worked two innings in relief, allowing just one earned run and three hits while striking out a batter.

Ithaca got a run in the first and another in the third before Fisher cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth. However for the second-straight day Ithaca put up five runs in the same inning, scoring five in the bottom of the fourth to end the Cardinals comeback hopes.

Ben Bostick, Sean Osterman, Ben Ward, Brad Rush and Nicholas Flemister each had a hit for Fisher with Osterman scoring a run. Matt Klock had the Cardinal's only two RBI while Steve Karnyski and Peter Krysztof scored the other two runs for the team.

Game Two – Ithaca 10, Fisher 9 (Nine Innings):

The Cardinals led the majority of the game, leading 9-2 after the top of the eighth inning. Ithaca was not done and scored five runs for the third-straight game against Fisher in the bottom of the eighth. With Fisher leading 9-7 in the final inning, the Bombers found a way to manufacture three more runs for the win.

Jason Beaumont started on the mound and was one-out away from a complete-game win but was relieved by Tom Dybas with the bases loaded. The Ithaca hitter singled through the left side, scoring the walk-off run for the Bombers.

Beaumont went 8.2 innings, allowing 13 hits and 10 runs, nine of which were earned, while striking out 10 Bombers. The senior is now 4-2 on the season.

The Cardinals out-hit Ithaca 17-14, with five Fisher batters finishing with multiple hits. Rush led the Cardinals with four hits, going 4-for-5 with an RBI and crossing the plate once. Karnyski and Klock each finished with three hits, with both scoring a run and Klock driving in an RBI.

Chris Roeder and Ward finished with two hits apiece, with Ward plating three Cardinals and scoring once. Roeder scored once and drove in a run as well.

Fisher will return to action at 3 p.m. on Tuesday when it hosts SUNY Oneonta.
