The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College softball program split its doubleheader on Wednesday at University of Rochester. Fisher won the first game 3-1, but lost the second game, 1-0. The loss snaps a 10-game winning streak for the Cardinals (12-4). During that run, Fisher outscored the opposition, 76-3. Fisher, currently ranked No. 21 in the latest NFCA poll, will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Rochester Institute of Technology.
Game One: Fisher 3, Rochester 1
Fisher never trailed in the game, jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, as
Jennifer Vanek scored on an RBI-single from
Sarah Fordyce. The Cardinals added two runs in the sixth to preserve the win. Freshman
Lindsey Holtz doubled in a run, scoring pinch runner
Michelle Townsend. Junior pitcher
Danielle Leone moved to 7-1 on the year. She scattered six hits and struck out six over seven innings.
Game Two: Rochester 1, Fisher 0
The Cardinals collected only three hits in the game. Pitcher
Sarah Stefanon took the tough-luck loss. The junior allowed just two hits all game, but a leadoff double in the bottom of the seventh accounted for the game's only run after Fisher committed two errors in the inning.
