Softball Home Opener Moved to Tuesday

The St. John Fisher College softball team has moved its doubleheader against D'Youville College from 3 p.m. on April 5th to 3 p.m. on March 20th, making it the first home game of the season for the Cardinals. Fisher currently holds a 7-3 record and are ranked 29th in the country by the NFCA, earning that mark in 10 games down in Tucson, AZ at the Tucson Invitational.

In Arizona the team fell three times but none of those are bad losses as all three came to the current No. 5 Coe College team from the NFCA national poll. The second game against Coe was a close one, with the Cardinals leading 1-0 entering the sixth inning after Jennifer Vanek tripled and was driven in by Megan Zoerb's single up the middle. Coe hit for three runs in the sixth and Fisher tried to mount a comeback in the seventh, scoring a run off of a Kelly Jones single to right field, but fell just short.

Fisher is led by returning Empire 8 Conference Player of the Year Vanek, who is currently batting .500 on 13-for-26 from the plate and scoring team-high 10 times. On the defensive side of the ball, Danielle Leone holds a team-best 4-1 record along with an astonishing 1.74 ERA.
