Rally Comes Up Just Short At Buffalo State For Women's Lacrosse

The St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season on Tuesday, losing 13-12 at Buffalo State College in a non-conference matchup.  Fisher (2-1) scored the game's final five goals, including a free position goal by Jill Zerrillo, but wasn't about to get the equalizer.

The Cardinals trailed 6-2 at the half, but scored the first three goals of the second half to pull within one at 6-5 with 20:35 left on  a free position shot from Melissa Leonhard.  After  another Buffalo State goal, Leonhard scored again to make it 7-6 with 18:06 left. 

The Bengals extended their lead to 12-7 with just over eight minutes left before Fisher began to rally.

Kristina Lombard scored with 6:05 left to make it 12-8.  Taylor Hughes scored a goal during the run, while Erin Ward netted two of her three goals during the run.

Leonhard finished the game with three goals, while Zerrillo totaled three points on two goals and one assists.  Leonhard also led Fisher with six draw controls.

Hughes scored two goals, while Tori Suto also scored.
 
Fisher will return to action at 12 p.m. on Saturday and will host Hamilton College.
