The Cardinals dropped the first game against the Saxons in an Empire 8 doubleheader, before turning around to win the nightcap 7-6 in the final inning on senior day at the Fisher softball complex.
Game one:
Alfred 9, Fisher 3
A home run from
Jamie Harmon on senior day highlighted game one, getting Fisher on the board after the Cardinals trailed 7-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
Fisher would put two more runs on the board in the fifth, but the Saxons matched the effort with two runs in the top of the sixth to seal the win.
Harmon finished a team-best 2-for-3 from the plate while
Megan Zoerb and
Kayla Goodberlet each recorded a hit and an RBI.
Danielle Leone took the loss on the mound, falling to 11-5 on the year. The sophomore recorded three strike outs.
Game two:
Fisher 7, Alfred 6
It came down to the last inning in the nightcap, as Fisher scored four runs in the final up to earn the 7-6 win.
Alfred got on the board first with a quick run in the first inning, but Fisher slowly chipped away at it, recording a run in the first, second, and fourth innings to take a 3-1 lead.
The Saxons, however, came up big in the top of the fifth, recording five runs to pull ahead 6-3.
It came down to the Cardinals' final up, where Fisher capitalized on Alfred's errors to steal the win. Goodberlet kicked off the inning with a single to left center. Harmon flied out to center, but
Leanne Merchant stepped up and ripped a single to the right fielder, who recorded a fielding error, sending Merchant to third and scoring Goodberlet.
Sarah Fordyce was nailed by the pitch, reaching first, while
Krista Robarge walked to advance her. Freshman
Jennifer Martin reached on a throwing error by the third baseman, scoring Merchant and advancing the runners. Senior
Lauren O'Brien reached on the fielder's choice, as the shortstop made a bad throw home to end the game with two runs scored at the plate.
Sophomore
Sarah Stefanon retired four batters and improved to 11-2 on the season with the win.
Fisher returns to action in a doubleheader at Ithaca next Saturday.
