Women's Lax Falls Behind Early to Lose at Ithaca

Freshman Bridget Alberts scored five goals in Saturday's loss.

The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team lost its first Empire 8 Conference game of the season, as the No. 19 Cardinals dropped a 20-14 decision at Ithaca College on Saturday afternoon.

Fisher outscored Ithaca 11-9 in the second half, but couldn't overcome its early deficit. Ithaca scored nine of the game's first 10 goals and led 11-3 at the half.
 
Freshman Bridget Alberts led the team with a career-high five goals. Taylor Hughes finished with three goals, while Meg Merriam totaled five points on two goals and three assists.
 
Shannon McDermott, Courtney Clare, Mary Stimson and Melissa Leonhard all chipped in one goal in the loss.
 
Goalie Caroline Trpcevski finished with five saves and one ground ball.
 
The Cardinals will return to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday against visiting Nazareth College in continued Empire 8 action.
