Women's Lacrosse Downs Hartwick

Mary Stimson led the squad with six goals in Sunday's victory.
The St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team improved to 3-3 in Empire 8 Conference play as the Cardinals downed the host Hawks 21-11 in Oneonta this afternoon.

Hartwick took its only lead of the game when it got on board first just 22 seconds into play, but the Cardinals took it away from there.

Mary Stimson kicked off scoring for the Cardinals just under two minutes into play, and would go on to tally two more goals in the first half. Meg Merriam matched her efforts, scoring the third goal of the game and the last two of the half, sending Fisher into the locker room with an 8-4 advantage.

The Cardinals ran away with the game in the second half, outscoring the Hawks 13-6 over the final stanza. Fisher outshot the Hawks 44-22 in the overall contest.

Stimson led the squad with six goals, while senior Jackie Maynard tallied a team-best seven points on three goals and four assists. Melissa Leonhard won a team-best 10 draws and tacked on four points (3g, 1a), while senior Courtney Clare controlled six draws and added four points of her own (2g, 2a). Merriam finished with five goals.

Caroline Trpcevski earned the win between the pipes, improving to 6-5 on the season and stopping six shots.

Fisher, 8-5 overall on the season, returns to action as it hosts Utica College in continued Empire 8 play on Friday at 4 p.m.
