On Saturday, the St. John Fisher College football team travels to Oneonta, NY for a 4 p.m. kickoff against the Hartwick College Hawks.
Hartwick has failed to win a conference game thus far, losing 35-28 last Saturday to Frostburg State University, falling to 0-6 in the Empire 8. Fisher is coming off a heartbreaking 41-21 defeat at the hands of Salisbury University, which was the psuedo Empire 8 regular season title game. The Sea Gulls earned the Empire 8's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships and at least a share of the Empire 8 regular season title by defeating the Cardinals.
Fisher has the third toughest schedule in the country for games played through November 5th, and has the 10th toughest schedule cumulatively for 2011. The team has to beat Hartwick and hope that its strength of schedule will be enough to earn one-of-six at-large bids to the NCAA Championships that the NCAA Selection Committee will be giving out.
