The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team dropped its opening round game in the Wendy's College Classic,
losing 83-58 to Hobart College on Wednesday night at Nazareth's Kidera Gymasium.
With the loss, Fisher falls to 2-3, while Hobart moves to 4-0.
Fisher led 25-24 with 6:50 left in the first half, but the Statesmen scored nine straight to start a 19-3 and led 43-28 at the half.
The Cardinals cut the lead to 13 at 58-45 with just over 10 minutes left after four straight points from
Justin Plata, but Hobart pulled away, thanks to an 18-4 run over the next five minutes.
Plata led the Cardinal with a career-high 16 points.
Jason Norsen added 15 points and six rebounds, while
Jordan Gettings chipped in with 11 points.
Fisher will return to action at 8 p.m. on Friday and will host either SUNY Brockport or Roberts Wesleyan College in a consolation game.
