The St. John Fisher College
women's soccer team fell to East Ave Rival Nazareth 1-0 on Tuesday night at Golden Flyer Stadium. With the loss the Cardinals are now 6-7 overall and 3-3 in the Empire 8 Conference.
Christine Belding scored the only goal of the game for Nazareth in the third minute off a pass from Sarah Elchelberger.
Although the Golden Flyers only outshot Fisher 13-9, the Cardinals were able to put just three shots on goal.
Noel Peck finished with seven saves for Fisher while
Val Hanson attempted a team-high three shots and
Vicki Alfieri tried two.
The Cardinals are currently a half-game behind Elmira in the loss column for the fourth place spot in the conference. The Soaring Eagles take on Ithaca College Bombers, who have a 4-1 conference mark, tomorrow afternoon. With a loss Fisher will remain tied with Elmira, with the head-to-head tiebreaker going to the Cardinals. Fisher beat the Soaring Eagles 4-1 on October 9
th.
After tomorrow, Fisher has one remaining conference game on the schedule against Utica, while Elmira will have to face first-place Stevens in its last conference match.
Fisher will return to action at 3 p.m. Saturday when it hosts the University of Rochester Yellowjackets at Growney Stadium.
