The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team won its fifth straight game and improved to 2-0 in the Empire 8 Conference, as the Cardinals earned a 68-49 win over visiting Elmira College on Wednesday.
Elmira (1-11 overall, 0-3 Empire 8), who trailed 30-23 at the half, cut Fisher's lead to five at 30-25 on the opening possession of the second half, but wouldn't get any closer.
The Cardinals (6-5) responded with a 12-0 run over the next five minutes and kept a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.
Jason Norsen finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and five blocked shots, while senior
Brandon Witte chipped in with 12 points and eight boards.
Fisher shot 13-for-24 (54.2%) from the floor in both the first and second half. After committing 14 turnovers in the opening period, the Cardinals committed just five over the final 20 minutes.
Fisher will play its next four games on the road, starting at 8 p.m. on Friday at Utica College.
