St. John Fisher College scored two runs in the bottom of the 11
th inning and avoided elimination, as the
Cardinals rallied for a 6-5 win over SUNY Oneonta in the NCAA Division III Championship New York Regionals at Falcon Park in Auburn, NY.
With the win, Fisher improves to 31-13 and will now face SUNY Cortland at 5 p.m. today in the championship game. If the Cardinals can knock off the top-seeded Red Dragons the two schools will play at 1 p.m. on Sunday with the winner of the double-elimination tournament earning a trip to the Division III College World Series.
All three of Fisher's wins in NCAA action this year have featured a flare for the dramatic. On Wednesday, Fisher overcame a 2-0 deficit and scored three runs in the seventh inning to beat No. 7 Brockport. Today, the Cardinals needed their final at bat to secure the win.
With one out in the bottom of the 11

Oneonta nearly scored in the 10

Geoff Martone worked out of a jam that featured runners on the corners and no outs. After the first batter fouled out to the catcher, right fielder
Phil Pettinella came charging in to make the catch and threw out the potential go-ahead run at the plate.
Benton earned the win for Fisher, pitching one inning of relief, raising his record to 3-0 on the year.
The Cardinals trailed 1-0 after the opening inning, but took the lead with two runs in the second and third innings.
In the third frame, after Wing reached on an error and
Jon Gibbs doubled, Barresi singled to score the two runners.
With two outs in the top of the seventh inning,
Dan Randall tied the game at 4-4 with a two-run homer to left field off reliever Martone.
