The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team
crushed the opposing Utica College Pioneers 17-5 on its way to tying a College-record for wins at 15 (15-1 overall, 6-1 E8) Saturday afternoon at Growney Stadium. With Fisher's win, coupled with RIT's win at Nazareth today, the Cardinals can earn the No 1 seed for next weekend's Empire 8 Conference Championship with a win at Elmira College on Tuesday.
If Fisher wins on Tuesday, the Cardinals will host Ithaca College at 4 p.m. on Friday in the Empire 8 Semifinals, whle a Fisher-loss on Tuesday would make the Cardinals the No. 3 seed and would play at Nazareth.
Fisher had to mount a slight comeback in the game, as it faced two different one-goal deficits in the first half. Utica had a 4-3 lead early in the second period when Fisher turned up the intensity and took over the game. The Cardinals went on to score 12 unanswered goals throughout the next 20:09 to take total control of the game, 15-4. Fisher showed an aggressive defense and offense which led to the burst of goals in the second and third periods.
Attack
Justin Tomzak chipped in a two-point game (1 goal, 1 assist) along with senior
Scott Bowen (2 goals). Sophomore
