Women's Lacrosse Can't Get By Pioneers

The St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team dropped a 10-6 decision to host Utica College on Saturday. The Cardinals out-shot the Pioneers 38-16, but managed to find the back of the net just six times throughout the day.

With the loss, Fisher falls to 3-11 overall and 2-5 in the Empire 8.

The Cardinals never led in the game, as the Pioneers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening six minutes and led 5-1 just over 11 minutes left into the first half.

Fisher, however, rallied to score four goals in the final 10:53 of the first half, tying the game at 5-5, including a goal from Jackie Maynard with one second left in the period.

Utica, however, regained the lead for good, scoring 49 seconds in the second half. The Cardinals out-shot the Pioneers 21-6 over the final 30 minutes, but Fisher's lone goal in the final period came with 12:55 left, making it 8-6.

Maynard finished with three goals and one assist, while Mary Stimson added two goals and one assist. Courtney Clare scored a goal, while Whitney Mirabito registered an assist.

Vicki Sahm made four saves in goal.

Fisher will return to action at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Alfred University.
